چکیده
We investigate the interaction between molecular hydrogen and ultrathin epitaxial CeO2 films modified with a 2% concentration of Cu atoms using X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) during thermal reduction cycles in H2. The XPS measurements are combined density functional theory calculations to obtain further insight into observed modifications film surface. Our results show that presence decreases barrier for H2 dissociation comparison on pure ceria surfaces, leading formation surface OH groups after exposure Moreover, oxygen vacancies generated already at mild temperatures (470 K), most likely via water desorption. hydroxyls contributes large increase Ce3+ increasing temperature. In spite these atomic scale modifications, morphology by scanning tunneling microscopy remains substantially unchanged length tens nm.

Cu- and Ag-Modified Cerium Oxide Catalysts for Methane Oxidation
The catalytic activity of nanocrystalline doped ceria and Cuand Ag-modified ceria for the complete oxidation of methane was studied in this work. The catalyst structure was studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and related to the availability of low-temperature oxygen species. Selected samples were also analyzed by STEM/EDX, HRTEM, and XPS. Temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) by H2 and CH4, as ...
متن کاملHeteroepitaxy of Cerium Oxide Thin Films on Cu(111)
An important part of fundamental research in catalysis is based on theoretical and modeling foundations which are closely connected with studies of single-crystalline catalyst surfaces. These so-called model catalysts are often prepared in the form of epitaxial thin films, and characterized using advanced material characterization techniques. This concept provides the fundamental understanding ...
متن کاملNickel-Oxide-Modified SrTiO3(110)-(4 × 1) Surfaces and Their Interaction with Water
Nickel oxide (NiO), deposited onto the strontium titanate (SrTiO3) (110)-(4 × 1) surface, was studied using photoemission spectroscopy (PES), X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES), and low-energy He+ ion scattering (LEIS), as well as scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The main motivation for studying this system comes from the prominent role it plays in photocatalysis. The (4 × 1) reco...
متن کاملInteraction of atomic hydrogen with monometallic Au(100), Cu(100), Pt(100) surfaces and surface of bimetallic Au@Cu(100), Au@Pt(100) overlayer systems: The role of magnetism
The spin-polarized calculations in generalized gradient approximation density–functional theory (GGA–DFT) have been used to show how the existence of second metals can modify the atomic hydrogen adsorption on Au (100), Cu (100), and Pt (100) surfaces. The computed adsorption energies for the atomic hydrogen adsorbed at the surface coverage of 0.125 ML (monolayer) for the monometallic Au (100), ...
متن کاملProbing enantioselectivity on chirally modified Cu(110), Cu(100), and Cu(111) surfaces.
Temperature programmed desorption methods have been used to probe the enantioselectivity of achiral Cu(100), Cu(110), and Cu(111) single crystal surfaces modified by chiral organic molecules including amino acids, alcohols, alkoxides, and amino-alcohols. The following combinations of chiral probes and chiral modifiers on Cu surfaces were included in this study: propylene oxide (PO) on L-alanine...
